Case study 3

A major British IT company was responding to an invitation to tender for a large system being procured by the UK government to increase the effectiveness of its border control, particularly in the light of much adverse publicity in the media. The company lacked business knowledge and experience and considered that this would be fatal to its bid. Border Management Solutions was called to assist in preparation of the tender response with specific reference to the business processes and their impact on current practice.

The Consultant from Border Management Solutions had four roles:

  • Working as part of the bid team to produce the response for submission to the client;
  • Providing advice and support to other team members on various matters about border control and management;
  • Giving presentations to team members and managers on border control issues and how they might be addressed;
  • Running workshops aimed at increasing the knowledge of the business processes team.
Timescales were short and the environment pressured, but a high quality response was submitted on time.
